Keeping this studio human
You can be yourself here, no matter how much you change. So can I.
From the start, I wanted Crescent Trail Pilates to be an incubator for growth. When the fitness industry and wellness world seems bent on conformity, scaling, and delivering a perfect, polished product, I realize how much my business doesn’t fit in.
It doesn’t need to fit in.
I do not expect the teachers and students I train to fit a mold. Being a human being is messy, unpredictable stuff. I teach to that. I center each person, allowing the unique way they learn and move to shape my approach. This also means I offer smaller classes and we all receive the benefits of that intimacy.
This space also grew into an incubator for teachers in training. I don’t want my trainees to teach like me, but to find their own voice, values and mission. Their growth is meant to expand beyond this space.
My edge as a teacher and mentor is my ability to lead each person toward change by naming possibilities with compassion and courage. It is most important that someone knows they are capable. The obstacles will always exist, but they do not need to prevail.
I would rather stay small as a business and gather in the ongoing messiness of learning than take on the trappings of a uniform brand.
That’s what allows this place to stay human.
