Kate's teaching is on the line

“A line is not good because it is like a line. A line is good because of its power related to other lines, which are powers.”
— Robert Henri

Teaching is as old as humanity. Movement calls us together and the community sustains us. The classroom is where self-efficacy takes root, and someone must hold the space. In my moments of doubt, I remember: my students have chosen me.

Teacher and student are woven roles. I lead with listening, with humor, with care. Each beginning is simple: How are you today? Let’s see what Pilates can do.

To step into learning is an act of courage. Each lesson offers a galaxy of options. We apply what we know, but wisdom comes from clear seeing that is stripped of noise and open to what unfolds. Pilates is scaffolding around the body and spirit; we scale it together.

“Lines and forms are not fixed things… The individual cannot see always the same. He is sometimes his greater, sometimes his lesser self.”
— Robert Henri

So it is with teaching and so it is with learning. We never see the same. We never stop needing one another or relating to one another. There is no formula. I still need my teachers.

This is who I am: I am not a performer, I am a teacher who opens the door, listens, and learns alongside you. I make my choices with not for, in the here and now. I say, “Start anywhere. Begin anytime. I see you. May I help guide you?

And you, the student, are the one who dares to begin. You say yes to curiosity, yes to progress, yes to change. You are authentic, resolute, human. You say, “I can start anywhere. Will you help me meet myself?

Yes. It is my honor.

Together we move, knowing movement is the first thread of our being. Through Pilates, we see the lines relate and strengthen the weave of our shared humanity.

We are infinite space
